Lions Park Cleanup

Volunteers are needed Saturday by the city of Olympia to help weed flower beds and clean up Lions Park from 9 a.m.-noon.

After the work is done, children are encouraged to stay and play on the recently installed playground equipment. Volunteers should plan to meet at 800 Wilson St. S.E., Olympia. Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided.

The event is part of the Olympia Parks, Arts and Recreation Department’s Volunteer In Parks series of work parties. Each Saturday morning, volunteers improve a local park. Volunteers also will help maintain the trail and plant new trees and shrubs at Mission Creek Nature Park from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 23.

Volunteers can register or just show up. Contact Sylvana Niehuser at 360-753-8365 or [email protected] for more information.

Legion Way Tree Celebration

Join us for the planting of 12 new trees on Legion Way! These trees will replace old trees which cannot otherwise be maintained. We’ll be celebrating the new Stewardship Plan for Legion Way, and recognizing the veterans for whom the street is named and for whom the trees were planted. Learn more about the Stewardship Plan and the future of Legion Way’s trees.

The exact starting location for the event has not yet been decided, but will be somewhere between Eastside and Central.

Garden Volunteers Needed

The first phase of installations of the picnic tables at the Madison-Avanti Garden will begin this Friday, October 15, at 2pm. The tables are partially funded by a grant from the city through the Eastside Neighborhood Association.

About five volunteers are needed to help with concrete; use of wheelbarrows is particularly appreciated.
