Eastside Neighbor-Tainment Variety Show

Saturday, June 1st, 3 to 5 p.m.

At Salvation Army Worship Center on 4th & Central

The Eastside and Bigelow Highlands neighborhood associations are sponsoring a family-friendly variety show that will be held on Saturday, June 1st from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Salvation Army Worship Center on 4th and Central. The doors will open at 2:30.

This is called the Eastside Neighbor-Tainment Variety Show. We want to bring neighbors together to create cohesiveness, unity, and connections in our neighborhoods, and make our City a happier and safer place to live.

Come to the show and you will see and hear performers of various ages doing poetry, piano-playing, guitar-playing, singing, and more. Our intention is to include a wide variety of performances that will appeal to people of all ages. It’s not a competition, just an afternoon of entertainment.

Anyone is welcome to attend and the event is free. In addition to performances, the program will include break time with refreshments and an opportunity for neighbors to get to know one another, and a sing-along.

We expect it to be a fun and well-attended event. Please join us. And feel free to bring along family and friends.

By the way, we still have a couple performance slots open. If you want to perform, send an e-mail to Roger Horn at [email protected].

Hope you can make it! Thanks!!!

Neighborhood Christmas Caroling

When?  Friday, December 21st, 6:00 pm

Starting Point: Swantown Inn & Spa, corner of 11th Ave SE and Central

Once again some of your neighbors are gathering to do an hour or so of Christmas caroling in our neighborhood. If you’d like to join us please do! Either by yourself or bring a group of friends. The more the merrier.

We can provide song sheets. However the song book is also available on the ENA web site. You can download to your phone or the like. It makes it easier to read the words in the dark.

Also it is suggested to bring a flashlight or headlamp for navigating our sidewalks.

We will gather until 6:30, and have a practice run at 3-4 songs. Feel free to bring some “jingle bells”

Hot chocolate will be provided to get you warmed up! Feel free to bring cookies or the like to share.

Here is the BIG CHANGE from last year. We will not be as random in our destinations. If you live in the lower part of the neighborhood, and would like us to call on you, please post with a comment, noting your address. We plan on visiting up to 10 homes (dependent on distances between).

It’s great fun for young and old. Last year we had everything from 3 year olds to 90 years olds.

Our song book is available here; Eastside Neighborhood Caroling Songs_2018, and we will have some printed copies (it is easier to read the songs in the dark on devices (or with a flashlight if using paper version).

Our song list is as follows:

  1. Jingle Bells
    2. Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer
    3. Deck the Halls
    4. Here Comes Santa Claus
    5. We Wish You a Merry Christmas
    6. Let it Snow
    7. Frosty the Snowman
    8. O Come All Ye Faithful
    9. Winter Wonderland

The Eastside Neighborhood Association is sponsoring an event Saturday, October 13th from 10 am to 2 pm at Lions park. We hope to line up a few apple presses and experts to show you how to turn your apples into fresh wholesome juice for you or to donate. Please reply to this post if you are interested or if you have equipment we could use, put the date on your calendar, and save your apples. You might also want to talk to your neighbors if you see apples that aren’t being picked. More information to follow.

A chance to talk with Councilmembers Parshley and Bateman about houselessness

On Wednesday, September 12th, Olympia City Councilmembers Lisa Parshley and Jessica Bateman are holding a meeting with Eastside Neighborhood residents to hear your concerns and, very importantly, your suggestions regarding houselessness in Olympia. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Olympia Veterinary Specialists Cancer Center at the corner of Eastside and State (115 Eastside St. NE). Please enter through the little house on the south end of the building.

The meeting is specifically for the Eastside Neighborhood. Meetings may be held for other neighborhoods in the future.

Come prepared to share your thoughts and ideas! Thank you.

Neighborhood Annual Picnic and Public Works Open House in the Park – Aug. 4th, 4 pm

The Eastside Neighborhood Annual Picnic will take place Saturday August 4, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Lions Park shelter.
Big Toms will generously provide burger fixings again! We’ll do hot dogs as well, with non-meat options available. Please feel free to bring a side dish to share with your neighbors, pot luck style.
In addition to getting together with your neighbors for fun stuff and great food, this year we are adding a special activity we’re calling:
Public Works Open House in the Park.
Staff from the City of Olympia Public Works Department and Eastside Neighborhood Association Board members will be there to to listen to your concerns and ideas about streets, sidewalks, sewers, water, storm water, garbage and recycling. Do you have a favorite pothole you’d like to see filled or an idea for a bike route or walking path? Then bring it to the picnic. We want to hear from you. While we can’t guarantee the pothole will be filled, we will make sure your comments are considered in the Eastside Neighborhood Subarea Plan which is currently being drafted.
